Connected Parents, Thriving Kids - Parenting Workshop
What is Giving the Love that Heals?
Giving the Love that Heals is a blend of Imago Relationship Theory, and the latest research in neuroscience and child development. It is structured to run over 8 weeks (3 hours each session) or condensed into a weekend workshop, and is for any adult (parent, caregiver, teacher or professional) involved with children of all ages, including teens.
Imago Parenting shows you how to respond and attune to your child’s needs. In order to establish a deep connection with your child, you will need to understand what lies behind his/her behaviour, especially if it is challenging to you, so that you can respond from a place of compassion and patience rather than frustration. In Imago parenting, you will learn how to bridge the communication gap so that you and your child remain close. You will then be in a better position to help and guide your child. The emotional safety you create in your relationship with your child is critical to their development. When your child feels heard and understood, he/she will be more likely to respond better to guidance from you and you will both begin to enjoy your relationship more.
Confidentiality is respected and maintained throughout the workshop. While this work is conducted in groups, it is not group therapy. The work on yourself and your parenting relationship during the workshop is private and is completed either alone or with your partner, depending on the task. The workshop is a confidential process that incorporates presentations by the workshop facilitator, private exercises and conversations that you will have with your partner or a partner in the group if you are unaccompanied. Any sharing with the group participants is voluntary and would be limited predominantly to feedback times.
This workshop is for you if you are:
» the difference between reacting to your child and responding with understanding to your child;
» to connect deeply with your child which will help you to manage acting-out behaviour more easily
» to identify your child’s stage of development and adjust your parenting to match your child’s needs at this level of development
» to be supportive when your child is frustrated and to
» to recognise what feelings underlie your child’s behaviour
You will learn:
» to become conscious of how your own childhood and life experience influences and impacts on your parenting. This awareness will help you to self-regulate so that you respond to your child more calmly if you are feeling reactive
» to transform challenging moments with your child into opportunities for connection
» to maintain a secure bond with your child by repairing any ruptures in your connection
» to enjoy and appreciate your relationship with your child
